Health and Wellbeing Outcomes of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Gathering Place model in Victoria Report

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander gathering places have been described as community hubs that promote the importance of culture in supporting positive health and wellbeing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Victorians. Definitions of ‘gathering’ in an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander context include activities such as sharing food, performing ceremony, exchanging knowledge and creating supportive networks to ensure continuity of culture and traditional practices that create culturally safe places (Myers 1986; Pawu-Kurlpurlurnu 2008).
