All 79 Local Governments in Victoria are required under the Victorian Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 to develop Municipal Public Health & Wellbeing Plans (MPH&WP). These are to be developed within 12 months of general Council elections. The MPH&WP can be incorporated into the Council Plan or can be a stand-alone document.
The planning cycle for the next MPH&W plans will be 2017-2021, following local government elections in October 2016.
The Victorian Public Health and Wellbeing Plan 2015-2019 ‘recognises the importance of local integrated action and the key role played by local government in community health and wellbeing’ (pg viii). An Outcomes Framework accompanies the State Plan. Both these documents inform the development of the Municipal Public Health & Wellbeing Plans.
